On May 15th a press conference was held ahead of the 26th World Balloon Championship 2026, which will take place in Krosno, the City of Glass, in just four months. The event was organized at one of the city's most modern venues – the Krosno Business Incubator. This location will serve as the competition's sports office.
The conference began with a representative of the main organizer, the Bogusława Nykiel-Ostrowska Open Hearts Foundation. CEO Jakub Mika, welcomed the guests, presented a broader schedule of events, including sports, recreation, and entertainment, highlighted the rapid recruitment process for the championships, marked the return of special shapes (balloons with non-standard shapes) to Krosno, and emphasized the importance of the event for the city and region. "We know perfectly well that Krosno residents love balloons, and balloonists love flying in Krosno," said Jakub Mika.
Next, Piotr Przytocki, Mayor of Krosno, who hosted the Town of Glass, spoke, confirming that the city is ready to host an event of this scale. "We have a modern stadium, an airport, and adequate facilities." He emphasized that the Championship is not just a sporting event but also a major promotion for the city, which will be featured in national and international media.
Władysław Ortyl, Marshal of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, also attended the press conference. The voivodeship authorities appreciate Krosno's role "on the world's aviation map" and support the city and its organizers. The Marshal provided information on a wider range of attractions for residents, including a nighttime drone show showcasing the region's history and attractions, nighttime air shows at the Krosno airport, acrobatic groups, a nighttime parachute show, and a glider acrobatics display. The Marshal's presence underscores the importance and significance of the event for the region.
Mr. Tadeusz Sanocki, founder of Splast Sp. z o.o., the event's sponsor, also spoke. He expressed his approval and satisfaction that the city is organizing such a wonderful event and kept his fingers crossed for its success.
Mr. Marcin Pawlak, Director of TVP3 Rzeszów Branch, was then asked to speak. He also expressed his satisfaction with the event of such high importance for the region and provided informational and promotional support.
The entire city is buzzing with excitement about this event. Dr. Zbigniew Barabasz, Professor of the Polish Academy of Sciences – His Magnificence, Rector of the State Academy of Applied Sciences in Krosno – also assured of his support, commitment, and the loan of facilities.
Also present at the conference was Ms. Wioletta Rejman, Director of the Department of Promotion and Tourism at the Podkarpackie Voivodeship Marshal's Office.
The organizers have officially begun the most intensive stage of preparations for the largest balloon event in Polish history, in which 120 balloon crews will participate.
