A quarter-century balloon tradition in the City of Glass

In an English-language brochure published in 2004 on the occasion of the 5th Mountain Balloon Competition, it was written as follows: "The tradition of hot-air balloon competitions in Krosno was initiated five years ago. The originators of the contest were Adam Gruszecki from Lublin, a well-known ballooning enthusiast and Bogusława Nykiel-Ostrowska, the journalist of Skrzydlata Polska from Krosno who is the heart and soul of all events organized here”.

The competitions organized in Krosno have a high sports rank. They gather the best players in Europe central. The level of sports competition is very high. The competition is held in a difficult, demanding mountain terrain with strong winds. During the May weekend, they gather thousands of fans from all over country. The City of Glass becomes the capital of ballooning. The native inhabitants are not surprised by the fact that the visitors they stop at unexpected moments and film and take photos of aircraft majestically flying over the surrounding area.

The Balloon May Day in Krosno also includes health-promoting conferences and the "Balloons over Krosnem" event.

Since the beginning of organizing GZB, over 100 concerts and various types of events have taken place in Krosno accompanying. The Krosno competition is an event that attracts balloon enthusiasts from all over the country abroad. It is a family celebration in the company of relatives and friends, with a catering zone and events cultural and sports. Reports from the competition appear on television, radio and social media.

Currently, Krosno is preparing to organize the World Championship, which will take place in May 2025 together with the Polish Cup and the 25th Mountain Balloon Competition. For the next 2 years, the City of Glass will be host teams from all over the world.
